The Sun, one of the 200 billion stars in the Milky Way galaxy, is the source of life for the planet we live in. If there weren’t the Sun, our Earth would be too cold and dark to live. Another importance of the Sun for human life is that it is the source of the oxygen we breathe. If there were no sun rays, plants would not be able to photosynthesize and there would be no life on Earth because oxygen was not produced.
The Sun cult has been encountered since prehistoric times in the history of humanity. In prehistoric and ancient times people believed the Sun to be a god. We can find temples built by humans to worship the Sun in almost all ancient civilizations in the world. Most of these temples are positioned according to solar phenomena like the equinox. The Sun as a worshiped deity has become a symbolic concept by abstraction within the developing religious systems over time.
Today, people still frequently use this symbol inherited culturally. We see this symbol most often in tattoo art today. People often embroider different, meaningful sun patterns on their bodies. Another area of use is corporate or personal logo patterns. Many companies and institutions use the sun symbol as an emblem. We can also find plenty of great stickers, stencils, decals and vinyls to use as a surface pattern. Most of us also use sun patterns for craft frequently in our projects.
Apart from these symbolic meanings, sun images remind us of a long summer vacation. Probably for this reason, lots of tourism companies have sun designs in their logos.
