This geometric laser cut light box was originally published in 2018. The files have since been fully redrawn: the base is sturdier, the corner joints are tighter, and the overall proportions are cleaner. The updated files build either a functional table lamp or a standalone decorative enclosure.
Structure and Material
The layout is drafted for 4 mm stock and works with MDF, plywood, or natural hardwood. The assembly consists of 12 main structural pieces with slot-and-tab joints throughout.
Two additional template pieces are included in the cut file. These are outer profile guides for sizing your inner diffuser material, whether you use translucent paper or light-diffusing acrylic. A diffuser panel lining the inside hides the light source hardware during the day and casts the lattice shadow pattern on the surrounding surfaces when lit.
Layers
The file has two separate layers: cut paths and engrave paths. Your laser software will read them independently without manual sorting. The engraving layer carries the surface detail on the top panel; the cut layer handles all structural geometry including the cord routing hole in the base plate.
Wiring and Safety
The base plate has a pre-cut hole for routing the electrical cord. Because this is a compact wooden enclosure, use low-heat LED bulbs only. Ensure all connections are properly insulated before use.
