Our wooden pendant light laser cut design turns flat sheet material into a hanging lantern with an open diamond lattice. We offer the cutting patterns as free files so you can build this single-bulb pendant from 16 pieces of nominal 3 mm sheet material.
We wanted the light to feel like a small piece of wooden architecture. The six-sided enclosure gives the bulb a defined place within the structure, while the lattice leaves the interior visible. Its repeating diamond openings recall traditional wooden screens, bringing that architectural character into a pendant for the home.
A Wooden Lattice Around a Single Light
We used straight-sided diamond patterns to give the panels a clear rhythm. Each opening reveals part of the space behind it, so the appearance changes as you move around the pendant. The upright ribs frame the patterned faces, and the circular supports connect them visually around the light.
Flower of life motifs in the upper horizontal pieces introduce curves above the angular lattice. This contrast gives the design two related details to discover: the diamonds across its sides and the petal-like openings seen through the upper structure.
The warmth of the wood is part of the effect we wanted to preserve. A walnut or oak tone can bring the grain forward, while darker cut edges trace the outlines of the panels and rings. These contrasting surfaces make the construction itself part of the decoration.
Above a small table or beside a reading chair, the pendant can introduce a lantern-like detail into the room. Against a plain wall or ceiling, its open pattern remains visible when the light is off. When illuminated, the bulb brings attention to the lattice surrounding it and the layers visible through the openings.
Creating Volume from Flat Sheet Material
Rather than bending a wooden sheet into a shade, we arranged six flat panels at angles around circular supports. The panels establish the hexagonal sides, while the horizontal rings give the overall form a rounded outline.
Six vertical ribs connect four horizontal rings and plates. Tabs and slots locate the pieces within this framework, bringing the flat components together around one central bulb. We kept the connections visible so the way the pendant is constructed also contributes to its appearance.
The complete pattern contains 16 pieces for nominal 3 mm sheet material. We drew the joints at nominal dimensions; prepare their fit for your actual stock thickness and cutting conditions. If you resize the design, the connecting features change too and must still correspond to the sheet you intend to use.
