Dinosaurs dominated the earth for nearly 150 million years before going extinct about 65 million years ago. Fossils discovered across the world reveal their diversity and way of life. Scientists often explain their extinction through asteroid impacts or powerful volcanic eruptions that changed the global climate.
The word “dinosaur” comes from Greek and means “terrible lizard.” Yet not all dinosaurs were fearsome. Many were peaceful, plant-eating species. Although bringing them back is impossible, dinosaurs remain popular today in books, films, television, and even theme parks.
